A Journey Of Singing Bowls
Imagine a bell turned upside down so the open rim faces the sky; that’s a singing bowl! When gently thrummed around the rim with a mallet, it can produce a long, steady tone that seems to shimmer in the air. These instruments belong to a wider family called "friction idiophones."
For musicians, singing bowls combine the resonance of bronze bells with the expressive control of a string instrument. Each bowl and mallet has its own pitches, tone color, and vibration pattern. When played together, they can create rich, layered harmonies and meditative soundscapes. That’s why you’ll find them not only in yoga studios and healing sessions, but also in ambient music, film scores, and experimental performances.
